Stanton Kitchen : 2013
Masses of worktop space was at the top of the list for these clients who love cooking, from baking bread to catering a refined dinner party. Lots of cooking means lots of pans and crockery, so easily accessible storage and quality appliances were also high priority together with plenty of storage for the groceries.
Full refurbishment was required to transform this dull kitchen into a light, bright lifestyle room so desired by our clients.
Whist the existing kitchen had a reasonable length of worktop, using it meant crossing from one side of the room to the other.
To maximise worktop area adjacent to the hob where it was required, we used extra deep drawer units with a worktop depth of 750mm. The extra depth worktop makes pastry and bread making a pleasure rather than a pain and the extra depth drawers provide a huge amount of storage.
Flanked by the ovens, refrigeration and food storage, everything is close to hand. Adding tall wall units above the wide drawers enhances the more traditional look and light pelmet and cornice are the traditional finishing touches.
The door of choice was a very simple framed door which is both easy to clean and easy on the eye.
Whilst our clients like the style of the bar handle, they didn’t like the standard size so we ordered their chosen size separately and these were installed individually on site.
With dozens of different granite colours to choose from, our clients visited our supplier and chose the exact slabs they wanted from the extensive choice. The granite was treated with a fifteen year sealer to protect against stains and damage from liquids.
This refurbishment project started with removal of the existing kitchen, ceiling, and wall tiles (the client had chosen Karndean flooring which could be laid over the existing flooring after the new kitchen was installed).
In order to comply with Part P of the building regulations regarding electrical installations in kitchens, we installed a new 17th edition consumer unit together with power supplies for appliances, ceiling lighting and under wall cabinet lighting.
Having installed plumbing supplies for the sink and dishwasher and installing the new ceiling, the ceiling and walls were plastered to decorative finish and the new kitchen units installed.
With the installation of the granite and glass splashback, the kitchen was ready to decorate with the beautiful colours chosen by our clients.
THE KITCHEN – before and after
We are very happy with both the quality of the units and worktops, and the way that they were fitted by Kitchenology (Tim & John in our case) – the work is of a very high standard. Other associated work, such as lighting, electrical and plastering, was also to a very high standard.
Everything was done on time. Work started and finished according to the time plan agreed when we signed the contract. Tim also confirmed on a daily basis what was going to happen next and what time they would arrive each day. On the few occasions we contacted Tim to ask a question (usually about something we wanted to change our mind about – such as lights or handles) he responded within a short time (never longer than a few hours). During the design process we changed what we wanted on several occasions – Jen was unfailingly helpful during this process and made many suggestions which we incorporated. She was also very good at offering different options, and discussing the pro’s and con’s of each, to ensure that we got exactly what we wanted at a price we were happy with.
Our kitchen is now finished (apart from flooring and blinds which are being done by other companies) and we are very happy with the way it looks. The plans and 3D simulations provided by Kitchenology were very helpful in this regard.
We’ve lived in/with our kitchen for several weeks now and we are still delighted with it both in terms of looks and functionality. Our experience of Kitchenology has been excellent from start to finish.
We looked closely at 3 other local kitchen companies over several months before deciding on Kitchenology. We chose them based on various parameters; mainly design, quality and cost. We also chose them because they seemed helpful, pleasant and genuine. We haven’t been disappointed and are happy to speak of our good experience and recommend them based on that.Stanton : 2013
