Histon, Cambs Kitchen : 2017

With an orangery extension planned for their listed home, Sharon and Basil were looking for a bright contemporary kitchen. Kitchenology love a challenge …

THE KITCHEN – before, perspective and after

We wanted a kitchen that would be clean and very practical, very light and easy to clean with great storage.

We visited one other company but weren’t really going to go for something contemporary although our friends had a German kitchen which they loved. We were won over by Kitchenology’s design ideas and flexibility.

Jen was super helpful but not in a pushy way which made us feel very comfortable. She made very practical suggestions and was very flexible, working around some of the things in a very old house which aren’t ideal. Their design worked for us and Jen listened to our needs.

I thought the installation might be difficult because of the age of the building and the kitchen is partly in the old bit and partly in the new bit. The installation team were great and they worked round any problems that came up. The boxing around our tall bank of units was brilliantly done even though I think they found it tricky due to the non-square walls and floor.

It was fantastic seeing the new kitchen turn out pretty much as we had planned it. So glad that we had confidence in Jen’s assurance that a modern kitchen in a listed building could work well.
Everyone was always super helpful and were great at offering practical suggestions that worked around our quirky building.

They made great suggestions when on site that they felt would make a difference and they really did. They suggested that we made the island slightly longer which I’m so glad we did. It makes it just that bit more comfortable. They also suggested some tiny tweaks around the placement of the sink and downdraft extractor which have really worked – things we wouldn’t have thought about.

I love the large expanse of open worktop – it’s so easy to cook in. I love the deep drawers everywhere – we have so much storage space. Jen’s idea of having a gadget area for kettle, coffee machine, toaster etc has worked brilliantly. I also love the induction hob which I wasn’t sure I would having been used to the responsiveness of gas but Jen let me stand and play with a pan of boiling water in the showroom for half an hour and I was sold.

Kitchenology listened to the things that were important to us, and didn’t try to push us over our budget.
