Open plan Industrial style kitchen for classic home – Bury St Edmunds

The Client's Brief

Our clients knew they wanted an industrial, contemporary style kitchen to complement a very large open space and to accommodate a specific list of appliances. We chose two finishes – grey Concrete from Nolte’s Stone range and matt White from their Glas Tec Satin range. The contrast between these two finishes helps to add interest and break up the long bank of tall cabinets. Additionally, our client chose a black glass shutter unit to house small appliances such as the food processor, together with black glass wide wall units.

A 12mm thick pewter grey textured ceramic worktop completes the industrial emphasis and is softened by a beautiful wooden peninsular from Danish company Spekva. Miele Mastercool refrigeration at 762mm wide is combined within the bank of tall cabinets, housed in bespoke cabinetry to accommodate the non-standard width. Hi-tech additions such as the Miele Artline appliances in Graphite Grey and the Zip tap offering Chilled, filtered, sparkling, boiling as well as the usual hot and cold are key to the superbly functioning kitchen.

Specifications

What specifically did you need from a new kitchen?

Having had a traditional kitchen in our previous house we were looking for a more contemporary design for our new home.

Why did you choose Kitchenology for your project?

We approached five kitchen companies, with our specification of a low maintenance design, and one which would fit in with our open plan living. We wanted a handle less kitchen with integrated appliances and a large fridge and freezer.

After receiving proposals from each company, Kitchenology were the only ones which had actually listened to our needs and produced plans of which we could get enthusiastic about.

What made Kitchenology stand out?

It is important to have someone who understands the vast array of combinations of materials available and Kitchenology, after listening to our kitchen vision, came up with the perfect mix. Basically they arrived at a design which worked.

What specific feature did you most like about your kitchen?

The handleless design and colour option of the Miele Artline suited our contemporary vision perfectly. It goes without saying that Miele appliance functions leave nothing wanting. We can even de-crystallize our honey using a setting in the steam oven!

Are you happy with the result?

Now that the kitchen is completed we can appreciate what a great design it is, the flow is perfect and everything is to hand, which saves so much time! We love all our Miele appliances which offer so much flexibility.
