Open Plan kitchen in a new barn conversion – Norwich

What Our Client Says

We were in the process of converting an agricultural barn so wanted a quality kitchen that would suit the style of a contemporary conversion.

We were looking for a good quality, hard-wearing and timeless kitchen that reflected the slightly more engineered or industrial feel of this type of barn conversion. It is an open plan space so we were conscious it would be permanently on display. We wanted an island unit but also required a kitchen that was tailored to an unusual ceiling profile. Leicht have a much larger range of unit sizes than most kitchen manufacturers.

We were keen on a German manufactured kitchen and more industrial finishes, i.e. the sprayed concrete. There were limited kitchen outlets who stock these high-end German kitchens and Kitchenology had good reviews online.

We visited Kitchenology initially to look at the range in person and get an idea of finishes and costs. We felt that Jen knew her products and was very helpful in narrowing down both product range and giving us some idea of costings.

We have always been a fan of Miele appliances so knew that all our appliances would be Miele. Jen helped us to navigate their product range and recommended the spec based on our requirements.

The installation was carried out by highly skilled kitchen fitters who took the time and care to ensure the finishing details were perfect.

We love our new kitchen; it is a joy to cook in and extremely easy to clean. It is also an impressive feature of our open plan living area. The focal point of the kitchen is the island unit, with its lovely Dekton worktop and Miele induction hob. This is one of our favourite appliances, although we love the ice-maker in the Miele fridge too!

We would absolutely recommend Kitchenology. Jen is extremely knowledgeable about her products and made our navigation through the world of new kitchens a lot easier.

Designers Comment:

This very individual home presented some challenges! It was important that the mid height cabinets adjacent to the sink run fitted neatly into the apex of the ceiling. To achieve this the heights of both the tambour in the corner and the oven cabinet next to it were adapted in height to meet the exact dimension.

Storage space was limited so we incorporated extra depth drawer cabinets with a height of 795mm on a 100mm plinth. This adds a whopping 25% increase in depth to each 70kg load capacity drawer.

The attention to detail that is a feature of every facet of this fabulous barn conversion was carried through to the kitchen, utility, annexe kitchen and annexe utility.
